"Speak English or You're Evicted"

The following is an article from a newsletter our company designs:

"In Palm Beach [a manufactured home] community served notice of a new rule that anyone who did not speak English would be evicted and had to get out of the community at once. In fact, the rule required people, regardless if they were bi-lingual or not, to speak English at all times while in the community. Naturally, as soon as local housing advocates heard of the new rule, the government was involved through the Attorney General’s office. ... The community owner was upset that a homeowner had rented his home to a Hispanic family, but he thought a rule stating that homes could not be rented to Hispanics might be discriminatory, and the “speak English or else” rule seemed like a fair compromise to him."

Un-freakin'-believable.

Music creation program?

I'm tossing this out there on the off chance any of you might have ideas. I'm looking for a program that will allow one to create music. The requirements are as follows:

  • It would need to allow one to write music on a staff (in other words, input without a keyboard). I'd prefer it not be in ABC since that's not terribly intuitive, but I've done it before. If need be, I can suck it up and deal.
  • It would need to be able to play four or five tracks at a time.
  • It would need to have a selection of instruments so as to not come out in that horrible, tinny, old MIDI style.
What I want to do is take some four-part sheet music I have and make it into listenable music. The only program I'm familiar with (Reason) is far too advanced -- and expensive -- for what I need, and a Google search is returning mostly programs for DJs. Any suggestions on a program or combination of programs that would fit the bill?

Two LJ posts in one day? Insanity!

But this question is better suited to this forum than my real journal... is anyone looking for an entry-level receptionist/accounting job? The girl we recently hired just e-mailed her resignation (effective immediately) this morning.

You scored as Chaotic Good. A Chaotic Good person is someone who has little intrinsic respect for laws or authority, seeing them as insufficient to sustain what's right. These people work according to their own moral compass which, while good, is not necessarily always aligned with that of society. Despite their chaotic tendancies, these people are good at heart.

Excellent job on the lyric identification! These are the answers, with kudos to the people who guessed them. Also, if you click the links of those that weren't guessed (within the next two days or so), you can download the songs. :)

On to the answers... )

I really liked this idea from [info]lady_isabella and thought it was more suited to LJ than my "real" journal.

Step 1: Get your playlist together, put it on random, and play.
Step 2: Pick your favorite lines from the first 15 songs that play.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song the lines come from.
Step 4: Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly.

And, naturally, no Googling for the answers. ;-)

Name those lyrics! )

If anybody has sent me an email recently that should have gotten a reply and not received one, please resend it to cyborgirl-at-gmail-dot-com. I just realized this morning that my forwarding addresses have not been doing their job for a while. On the plus side, my cell phone has an antenna again; I apologise for being unreachable for the past week.

...to [info]cyborgirl2. Kind of.

Cyborgirl2 picks up the RSS feed from my real site. The information it contains is currently just the title, a 20-word excerpt, and a link to the whole entry on my site (since my entries tend to be wordy). Use this information as you wish.

Well, duh.
